Hiking Xayukita

We are a project dedicated to ecocultural experiences that, through hiking, invites you to discover Sayulita and its surroundings in an authentic and mindful way. We don’t offer generic tours: we design deep, meaningful experiences grounded in knowledge, local history, and a strong respect for nature and the communities that call this place home.

Our work blends the Humanities, Cultural Tourism, Ecological Biogeography, and local cultural wisdom. This allows us to share solid, accessible information and reveal the human and natural richness that defines this beautiful corner of the Mexican Pacific.

We’ll guide you along lightly traveled trails, hidden beaches, vibrant jungles, and viewpoints you won’t find in conventional guidebooks. You will also take part in an Indigenous ceremony led by the spiritual guide of the Wixaritari community, enjoy local food prepared by families from the area, create your own handcrafted piece, and explore ancient petroglyphs to understand their symbolism and their connection to Indigenous cultures and the natural world.

Each experience is built with environmental responsibility, community collaboration, and a human centered approach. Our goal is for you to leave with a lasting, meaningful memory, not just photos, but a deeper understanding of Sayulita and the life that makes it so special.

Hiking Xayukita:

The Meaning behind the name

The name Hiking Xayukita was created with the intention of representing a deeper and more conscious way of experiencing hiking in Sayulita and its surrounding areas.

According to the oral tradition of the Wixárika people, the word “Xayukita” (pronounced rayukita) can be interpreted as “place of the fly,” where 'Xayu' means fly and 'kita' means house or place. Over time, and through its adaptation into Spanish, this term has been associated with the present-day name Sayulita.

"It is not a hike, it is a geniune connection between culture, place, and people"

Beyond its possible translation, within the Wixárika worldview, Xayukita represents a place of profound spiritual meaning: a space of transition where souls reach their destination after death. In this process, the fly is not seen as something ordinary, but as a spiritual guide, a symbol that accompanies and leads the soul on its final journey. In this sense, it carries a powerful meaning, representing the end of a path, transformation, death, and liberation—not as an end, but as a transition into another state of existence.

At the same time, the concept of Xayukita reflects the deep and inseparable relationship between a place and its origins: its traditions, its gastronomy, its customs, and above all, the way its people connect and share with those who visit. From this perspective, the true meaning of experience emerges—not as a guided tour or a scripted activity, but as something far more meaningful. It is a natural and genuine connection between the culture, the atmosphere of the place, and each visitor, created in the moment rather than staged or pre-designed.

The word “Hiking”, on the other hand, brings a contemporary and global dimension. Its use reflects the intention of creating an inclusive and multicultural space where people from all over the world feel welcome. Here, origin, language, or nationality do not matter—what matters is the willingness to connect, learn, and share with respect.

In this sense, Hiking Xayukita promotes responsible and interpretive hiking, focused on caring for both the natural and cultural environment. Each experience seeks not only to minimize environmental impact, but also to raise awareness by sharing the historical, ecological, and symbolic value of each place.

Hiking Xayukita is not just a name; it is a statement of purpose. It represents the union between the ancestral and the contemporary, between nature and human beings, between those who inhabit the land and those who visit it. It is an invitation to walk not only physical paths, but also pathways of understanding, respect, and deep connection with the world around us.

About me

My name is Jair Frausto, a passionate explorer of culture and nature. Since childhood, walking has been my way of discovering the world through trails, family stories, and a deep connection with the land, I learned that every step can hold meaning.

For more than eight years, I have explored the jungles, beaches, and ecosystems of this region, learning from its natural richness and the wisdom of local communities. With a background in Cultural History and ongoing studies in Culture Tourism and Sustainable Nature, I bring together knowledge and lived experience to create journeys that go beyond a simple walk they become spaces for connection, learning, and presence.

Our experiences invite you to walk mindfully, feel nature, and discover the deep relationship between culture, land, and community. Through cultural, culinary, and artisanal encounters, each visitor becomes part of a living story, helping preserve the traditions that shape the identity of this place.

My intention is simple: for every step to become a memory, every story to awaken awareness, and for you to leave with more than images the feeling of having been part of something real.

Discover, respect, and leave your mark.
