Hiking Xayukita:
The Meaning behind the name
In a place where nature and culture are deeply intertwined, the name of a project emerges with the intention of honoring that relationship in a conscious way. Hiking Xayukita reflects this union and gives meaning to the experience it represents.

"It is not a hike, it is a geniune connection between culture, place, and people"

The word “Hiking”, on the other hand, brings a contemporary and global dimension. Its use reflects the intention of creating an inclusive and multicultural space where people from all over the world feel welcome. Here, origin, language, or nationality do not matter, what matters is the willingness to connect, learn, and share with respect.
On the other hand, “Xayukita” (rayukita) comes from the Wixárika language, of Yuto-Nahuan origin, and can be interpreted as “place” or “house of the fly” (“xayu”: fly, “kita”: place or house). Over time, this term evolved into what is now known as Sayulita.
In the Wixárika worldview, Xayukita is a spiritual place where souls pass through after death. The fly acts as a guide in this process, symbolizing transformation and the transition into another state of existence.
In this way, Hiking Xayukita brings these meanings together into a single concept: to walk the land while understanding its natural, cultural, and spiritual dimensions. It is an invitation to move with respect, awareness, and connection.
