Hiking Xayukita

We are a project of eco-cultural experiences that, through hiking, invites you to discover the southern coast of Nayarit, Mexico in a responsible and conscious way. Our routes allow you to explore the region’s natural and cultural richness while fostering a genuine connection with the environment and local communities.

We promote ecological awareness, the preservation of biocultural heritage, and responsible tourism. To achieve this, we integrate principles of interpretive hiking, cultural and community-based tourism, as well as elements of cultural history and anthropology, in order to offer experiences that are both enriching and respectful.

Our goal is to transform the way tourism is practiced in the region, moving toward a more conscious, biocultural, and regenerative model. We aim for each experience to contribute to environmental care, strengthen local communities, and encourage a more responsible way of traveling.

Hiking Xayukita:

The Meaning behind the name

In a place where nature and culture are deeply intertwined, the name of a project emerges with the intention of honoring that relationship in a conscious way. Hiking Xayukita reflects this union and gives meaning to the experience it represents.

"It is not a hike, it is a geniune connection between culture, place, and people"

The word “Hiking”, on the other hand, brings a contemporary and global dimension. Its use reflects the intention of creating an inclusive and multicultural space where people from all over the world feel welcome. Here, origin, language, or nationality do not matter, what matters is the willingness to connect, learn, and share with respect.

On the other hand, “Xayukita”  (rayukita) comes from the Wixárika language, of Yuto-Nahuan origin, and can be interpreted as “place” or “house of the fly” (“xayu”: fly, “kita”: place or house). Over time, this term evolved into what is now known as Sayulita.

In the Wixárika worldview, Xayukita is a spiritual place where souls pass through after death. The fly acts as a guide in this process, symbolizing transformation and the transition into another state of existence.

In this way, Hiking Xayukita brings these meanings together into a single concept: to walk the land while understanding its natural, cultural, and spiritual dimensions. It is an invitation to move with respect, awareness, and connection.

About me

My name is Jair Frausto, a passionate explorer of culture and nature. Since childhood, walking has been my way of discovering the world through trails, family stories, and a deep connection with the land, I learned that every step can hold meaning.

For more than eight years, I have explored the jungles, beaches, and ecosystems of this region, learning from its natural richness and the wisdom of local communities. With a background in Cultural History and ongoing studies in Culture Tourism and Sustainable Nature, I bring together knowledge and lived experience to create journeys that go beyond a simple walk they become spaces for connection, learning, and presence.

Our experiences invite you to walk mindfully, feel nature, and discover the deep relationship between culture, land, and community. Through cultural, culinary, and artisanal encounters, each visitor becomes part of a living story, helping preserve the traditions that shape the identity of this place.

My intention is simple: for every step to become a memory, every story to awaken awareness, and for you to leave with more than images the feeling of having been part of something real.

Discover, respect, and leave your mark.
