Originating from Nayarit, Sinaloa, Jalisco, and Colima, all share the same Pacific influence, a love for the sea and its bounty. Sayulita adopted these dishes with pride, made them its own, and turned them into part of its daily life.
Sayulita began as a small coastal ranch with palm-thatched houses. In the 1960s, the first tourists arrived, but it wasn’t until the 1990s that the village experienced its true boom. Despite the changes, including foreign influences, new cuisines, and international ownership, local families have preserved their traditions and kept the authentic flavors of Sayulita alive.
During this experience, you’ll taste eight signature dishes from different restaurants owned by Sayulita’s original families. The goal is to highlight and give voice to the true guardians of local flavor, shifting attention away from the popular spots to focus on those that embody the town’s authentic culinary spirit.
At each stop, you’ll learn the story behind the restaurant, the family who runs it, the origin of the dish, and its preparation. You’ll discover how and why these flavors reached Sayulita and how they have endured through time, modernity, and globalization.
